Remembering who we are.
Pacifist though I am, I'd just like to put a shout out to those that served in a variety of wars, police actions, and as civilian protectors. Happy Memorial Day. I know we are supposed to remember those we lost, but I also like to remember all who served and are still serving. Both of my grandparents served in WWII--my Grandmother was a WAVE who read radar, my grandfather was a sailor who worked in the medical clinics as a dental assistant. My uncle, Frank Parker, flew jets over Germany, and my uncle Grover Bradshaw fought in the Battle of the Bulge. My cousin's husband, Donnie, is currently serving overseas, proudly and with bravery in a situation that he doesn't necessarily agree with--he does his best to protect and serve as is his true duty to the world. My brother-in-law, Stephen Jordan, served in the first gulf war--a war that was fought for oil and stature--two things wars should never be about.
I love my country and support my servicemen and women, but I don't have to believe in why we are fighting now. Memorial Day is about those who have passed and remembering what who we are and the great men and women who fought for our freedom, which I hold near and dear, otherwise, I wouldn't be writing this message now.
Please pray for all those embroiled in battle, that they may be compassionate when needed and brave when called for.
