It is very frightening when you think about who these terrorists are--they are Americans. They are the worst of us, but also the best.  Contradictory, but these boys came here with their family, escaping religious persecution in Russia.  The younger brother is a naturalized citizen, a typical post-high school student.  Radicalization comes from fervent belief in a system that seems better. 

No one is perfect, and those that lead our country are not perfect, America is not perfect.  It is what it is.  If you come here, you are open to all we have to offer, but you also are victim to the prejudices that are protected by our Constitution.   I think that comes as a surprise to foreign refugees who expect all of the best, but come across the worst. 

I am an Average American.  I have a job, a home, children.  I have tried to raise my children with a mantra of "kindness and respect", but they understand that not everyone was raised in the same way.  I am proud of my children--I wish that those that expect the best of America could meet them.  They will believe that the average American is a good person.
